Dear Family and Friends,
I want to thank you so much for writing that letter to Judge Lamberth that urged him to let me out of prison early because of the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result of your letters and a great team of Federal Public Defender attorneys, the judge ordered my release with time served. The government did not want to release me. But, because of Covid, other judges were letting out prisoners that were younger than me, had spent less time in prison than me, had more serious charges (including violent crimes!!) than I had, I think they felt it would be a little hard to explain why they would refuse to let me go home early. I believe in God and I believe He just put them in a bind. What do you think?
On January 5, 2021, I was released from prison. I am now in Colorado, united with my wife, Kookie. Although I am out of prison, I am not free, I am just freer! I have been put on what is called Supervised Release. My Probation Officer put an "ankle bracelet" on my left ankle. This is a GPS tracking device that knows exactly where I am 24 hours a day. It never comes off (possibly for the next 3 years). I sleep with it. I shower with it. Not comfortable, I can assure you! And, I cannot leave the house without first getting the Probation Officer's permission.
Nevertheless, I feel very blessed by the good Lord to be home, no matter the restrictions that are attached to the blessing.
It has been 14+ years since I have been in the real world. All this "techie" stuff is overwhelming to me. But, it is exciting. I am looking forward to learning how to use it.
Once again, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your efforts on my behalf.
Love you all,
Eddie
P.S. One of the conditions of my release is that I will not go back to teaching people what I have learned about the tax laws and the federal government in general. So, I have to be very careful about what I say as I know the feds would love to have a reason to me and put me back in prison. Consequently, if I seem a little standoffish at times, just know I am trying to stay on this side of those walls!
